Featured Artist - Nicky Chubb
Nicky hopes that her paintings are expressive & joyful.
Banish the winter blues with a ray of sunshine and splash of colour from one of Nicky Chubb's latest floral paintings.
Her paintings tend to be both expressive & joyful. She's particularly inspired by the vivacious wildflowers and big skies she sees in the countryside around her home. Favourites include cow parsley and poppies, but this spring she's been completely obsessed with bluebells, which seem to be everywhere.
Many of her pictures also include memories of the beautiful, larger than life flowers which her Grandad grew in his garden. Her work is also strongly influenced by old textiles, both in the colours she chooses and in her use of collage, stencilling and mark-making to add texture and depth.
Nicky originally trained as a designer, gaining a BA (hons) in Fashion Design with a specialism in printed textiles at Central St. Martin's School of Art in the early 1990's.
After working in various areas of the fashion & textile design industry, a career break to raise her four children has led her to rediscover her earlier obsession with drawing & painting.
