Elaine Bolt - current work

Subtle curved forms illustrate sensations of comfort and sanctuary

Elaine’s work seeks to explore ideas around ‘sense of place’ and the meanings we attach to the notion of ‘home’. Her latest series of ceramic pieces have used subtle curved forms to illustrate sensations of comfort and sanctuary.

Her ceramics are also influenced by reflections on her surroundings in the landscape of the Sussex Downs and the variations in tone and form to be found in this rural setting.

Elaine works mainly in porcelain, occasionally contrasting this with darker and coarser clay. Her work is typically thrown and glazed in varying shades of pale green and celadon crackle glazes then reduction fired in a gas kiln. Contrasting oxides may be added to surfaces and rims or additional 'decal' illustrations added to some of the pieces and re-fired.

Elaine is currently studying for an MA in Ceramics at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham and has a workshop in Lewes, East Sussex.
