Pam Cummings - current work

I'm inspired by the beauty of natural forms

My current work is inspired by the beauty of natural forms such as flowers, water droplets, seed pods and leaves.

Sometimes I look at close-up or microscopic images of these forms to achieve a different perspective.  I then try to communicate my love of these forms to others through 3D

I like to use the contrasting mediums of heavily grogged raku clay and the delicacy and translucency of porcelain which matches the apparent fragility of many natural forms but which is surprisingly strong.

In a strange contrast the porcelain pieces are high fired to 1260 degrees, but the heavy raku clay is low fired and then placed in a reduction chamber, where the natural flames leave their individual marks.
