Patrick Simkins - current work

Patrick paints striking abstract cityscapes of well-known and sometimes obscure London viewpoints.

Finding a balance between the placid historic architecture and the rush of the streets below, the works display the vibrancy of our multicultural city while maintaining its traditional forms.

On first impression, the image seems a mesh of colour but as the viewer continues to look and make sense of the painting, soon a noticeable landmark emerges and the colours and marks become a visually stimulating cityscape full of life and energy.

The variety of marks that are made and the multi-layering of paint on the canvas mean that something different is noticed on every view.

Patrick qualified with a 1st Class Hons degree in Fine Art & Illustration from Coventry University in 2008. He has subsequently been the finalist in the National Open Art Competition in 2009 and 2010.
