Karen was born in Kent in 1965. Following a BA Honours degree in Printed Textiles at Middlesex Polytechnic in 1989, she worked in the Textile Industry for 16 years designing for Laura Ashley, French Connection, Habitat and many other fashion and textile companies worldwide.
Returning to her home county of Kent in 2004 with her family after many years in London she was able to pursue a long held desire to become an artist. Her background as a designer plays an important role in how she interprets the patterning and form of the landscape or still life.
Karen’s work is strongly influenced by the surrounding countryside of the South East as well as the coast, her garden and home. Karen likes to create an impression of the landscape or garden, which often reflects her memories of a place. Her work depicts the changing seasons in colour, mark making and texture with a strong sense of movement within the painting.
